Announcing VJC Surry Country Drive, October 19thFall is approaching and the hot sticky summer weather will soon be coming to an end. So, now is a good time to plan for a fall drive through the countryside of Surry County in your Jaguar (or any car for that matter). I have laid out a route that will start and end near Surry, on the southern shore of the James River. The route will require about 2 hours and cover 80 miles of paved, lightly-travelled secondary roads, ending at a restaurant for lunch. This will be an opportunity to take a leisurely, or spirited if you prefer, drive in (hopefully) beautiful fall weather and enjoy the camaraderie of like minded car people. This drive is best done with a driver and navigator but it is possible to do it solo. Each vehicle will be given a set of driving instructions (mileage from start, turn directions, route names & numbers). No time or speed calculations are required. Just follow the instructions and you should arrive at the restaurant. Simple. Come join us on October 19th at the Surry County Visitor Center, 267 Church St, Surry VA 23883. The first vehicle will depart at about 11:00 AM. Questions? Please contact Ron Mitchell at ron.mitchellwpg@gmail.com
Historic Gathering of VJC Presidents @ 2024 Concours
A wonderful happenstance at this year’s Concours occured at the social hour at The Crossings Pub & Lounge the day before the show where — a significant time in VJC history — where (almost!) all the previous club presidents were together. Missing unfortunately from this picture is Dr. Ron Gaertner who was in command during the zenith of VJC’s history during the national Jaguar show AGM in 2013, which was also held here at The Crossings. Seated in the center is Virginia Jaguar Club founder and first president Wayne Estrada. To his right and on the left of this photo is David Harrison, having served a decade for VJC and olding longest tenure in this office. Dr. Gaertner (not in this picture) served imeediate after Mr. Harrison. On the far right is Bill Sihler, our immediate past president and standing is VJC’s current president, Brian Trickett. Interestingly enough, in the spirit of true British/American cogenality, David and Brian are both Brits while Ron, Wayne and Bill are from 'this side of the pond.' This was an event to remember and a nice cap to the beginning of our 2024 Concours. Hope to see you all again next year! 2024 Memberships! It is not too late t join VJC at 1/2 the usual fee for the remainder of the year.
